Adequan Canine (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan) is an injectable medication designed to treat canine arthritis. It helps improve joint function and alleviate pain by protecting cartilage, restoring joint lubrication, and inhibiting harmful enzymes.
Uses:
- Treats non-infectious degenerative and/or traumatic arthritis in dogs.
- Supports joint health and mobility.
Dosage Information:
- Loading Dose: Administer 2 mg per lb (4.4 mg/kg) of body weight intramuscularly twice weekly for up to 4 weeks (8 injections).
- Maintenance Dose: The dosing interval may be adjusted based on the dog's clinical response. Consult your veterinarian for specific recommendations.
Administration:
- Ensure the area is clean before administering the injection.
- Use a sterile needle and syringe.
- Administer intramuscularly in a large muscle mass such as the quadriceps or hamstrings.
Precautions:
- Only for use in dogs.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Use under the guidance and supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
Side Effects:
- Mild pain or swelling at the injection site.
- Rarely, some dogs may experience gastrointestinal upset, lethargy, or hypersensitivity reactions.
