  PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION - RX Required

Furosemide is a potent diuretic commonly used in veterinary medicine to manage conditions such as congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, and certain kidney diseases in dogs and cats. Furosemide helps remove excess fluid from the body by increasing urine production, thereby reducing the workload on the heart and relieving symptoms associated with fluid retention.

Key Benefits:

  • Fluid Management: Helps eliminate excess fluid buildup in the lungs and other tissues.
  • Heart Health: Supports the management of congestive heart failure by reducing the volume of blood the heart must pump.
  • Kidney Function: Assists in managing kidney diseases by promoting diuresis.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dogs:
    • Dosage: The typical starting dose for dogs is 1 to 2 mg per pound (2 to 4 mg/kg) of body weight, administered once or twice daily.
    • Administration: Administer orally with or without food. Ensure your dog has access to plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
  • Cats:
    • Dosage: The typical starting dose for cats is 0.5 to 1 mg per pound (1 to 2 mg/kg) of body weight, administered once or twice daily.
    • Administration: Administer orally with or without food. Ensure your cat has access to plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

Usage Instructions:

  • Consistency: Administer Furosemide at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
  • Monitoring: Regular veterinary check-ups are essential to monitor your pet's response to treatment and adjust the dosage as necessary.
  • Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not give two doses at once.
  • Hydration: Ensure your pet always has access to fresh water to prevent dehydration, as Furosemide increases urine production.
