Vetmedin (Pimobendan) is a veterinary medication specifically formulated to manage congestive heart failure in dogs. Vetmedin works by enhancing the heart's ability to pump blood and by dilating the blood vessels, reducing the workload on the heart. This dual action helps improve the quality of life for dogs suffering from heart conditions such as dilated cardiomyopathy and mitral valve disease.

Key Features:

  • Active Ingredient: Pimobendan, a benzimidazole-pyridazinone derivative.
  • Heart Support: Improves cardiac output and reduces cardiac load.
  • Quality of Life: Enhances the well-being and activity levels of dogs with heart failure.
  • Veterinarian Recommended: Trusted and widely prescribed by veterinarians for managing canine heart failure.

Available Dosages:

  • Vetmedin Chewable Tablets: 1.25 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg.
  • Vetmedin Capsules: 1.25 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg. (special request - please contact us to order non-chewable tablets)

Usage Instructions:

  1. Dosage: Follow your veterinarian's prescription for the correct dosage based on your dog's weight and condition. Commonly prescribed dosage is 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) body weight, divided into two daily doses.
  2. Administration: Administer Vetmedin orally, either directly into the mouth or with a small amount of food. Do not mix the medication with a full meal.
  3. Consistency: Administer the medication approximately 12 hours apart for optimal effectiveness.

Benefits:

  • Cardiac Function: Enhances the heart's pumping efficiency.
  • Vasodilation: Reduces the resistance against which the heart must pump, easing cardiac stress.
  • Longevity: May prolong the life expectancy of dogs with heart failure.
  • Convenient Administration: Available in palatable chewable tablets and easy-to-administer capsules.

Precautions:

  • For veterinary use only.
  • Not for use in humans.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature.
  • Follow your veterinarian’s instructions carefully.
  • Do not stop or alter the medication without consulting your veterinarian.
  • Use with caution in dogs with severe hepatic (liver) dysfunction.

Side Effects:

  • Possible side effects include loss of appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, or vomiting. If these or any other side effects occur, consult your veterinarian.
